Meet Kurt, Director of Operational Excellence for AMETEK’s Brookfield, Grabner Instruments, Petrolab and Spectro Scientific businesses
Kurt is one of our Operational Excellence leaders helping foster AMETEK's culture of continuous improvement. We caught up with him while he was attending AMETEK University – a three-day training and development program for leaders and future leaders of AMETEK. Learn more about his AMETEK journey!
How did your AMETEK career begin?
I started working at Brookfield as a Manufacturing Engineer in 2015 just prior to AMETEK acquiring the business. Over the years, I was promoted to Machine Shop Manager, then Production Manager, and later became Brookfield’s Operational Excellence and Manufacturing Engineering Manager. Recently in 2023, I was promoted to Director of Operational Excellence for AMETEK’s Fluid Analysis business unit, which includes Spectro Scientific, Grabner Instruments, Petrolab, and my home base Brookfield in Massachusetts.
How would you describe Operational Excellence at AMETEK?
At AMETEK, Operational Excellence is not limited just to Lean and Six Sigma. It is a culture of continuous improvement in all areas, but it starts with our people. Leveraging our team’s experiences is critical, as the front-line workers are experts in their roles and they have the best ideas on how to make their own jobs better. At the end of the day, when we make our jobs better, we’ve also made a better experience for the customer.

What are some ways you’ve implemented OpEx principles in your business unit?
An often-underutilized area of Operational Excellence is Digital Transformation, where leveraging technology and data analytics can automate processes and improve the speed and quality of decision-making. This includes not only software tools and AI, but also physical technologies such as 3D printing at work cells and robotics for automated machine tending.
At Brookfield, I’ve focused on introducing these innovations to drive efficiency, reduce reliance on vulnerable supply chains, and enable on-demand production without the burden of excess inventory. I’ve also prioritized automating data collection and processing to support faster problem identification and smarter decision-making.
Kurt (center) attended AMETEK University in May 2025 How has AMETEK supported you in your position?
AMETEK has supported me through several development programs, such as participating in an in-depth corporate Operational Excellence training, which broadened my understanding of AMETEK’s diverse businesses and highlighted the value of intercompany collaboration.
It’s motivating to help others identify and solve challenges through training, coaching, and mentoring, and seeing those solutions come to life is truly rewarding. I also had the opportunity to attend AMETEK University this year and connect with team members across AMETEK’s different businesses.
What was your experience like at AMETEK University?
I had a great experience at AMETEK University. It was an excellent opportunity to learn about the AMETEK Growth Model from our leadership team. It was really interesting to hear them share insights and experiences firsthand and learn together with colleagues from our many businesses around the world.
