Originally known as Atlas Electric Devices Company, the business began in Chicago in the early 1900s as a manufacturer of Solar-Lite carbon arc lighting systems. Atlas has achieved major weathering technology milestones in the decades since, including creating the first laboratory accelerated weathering instrument (1927), establishing the first outdoor weathering testing facility (1931), and opening the largest commercial weathering laboratory in the world (2017).
Atlas products are designed and manufactured to conform to international and industry standard test methods. In addition to lightfastness and weathering instruments, Atlas also produces corrosion and flammability testing instruments and provides client education and technical consulting services worldwide.
Through all these years, this AMETEK business has been a leading innovator in natural and laboratory lightfastness and weathering technology and services and is committed to continuing in its legacy leadership role.

Meet Denis, Team Lead Assembly - Operations at Atlas Material Testing Technology.
Denis is based in the Atlas headquarters in Mt. Prospect, IL. He is responsible for making sure that all the necessary components for a given project are available and works to ensure that orders are completed on time and are of the best possible quality. As a team lead, he provides essential support to his colleagues, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
An Atlas team member since 2021, Denis finds it rewarding knowing that the products he helps make will help clients with the quality of their own products.

Supporting STEM Education
AMETEK colleagues and businesses around the world support FIRST® Robotics clubs by sharing their talent, time, and resources. To promote STEM education, the AMETEK Foundation enhances this engagement by sponsoring the clubs that they champion.
Zach, a mechanical engineer at Atlas, is one of our AMETEK colleagues who mentors a FIRST Robotics club. After participating as a student, he now volunteers his time to support the Bearbotics team from Lake Zurich High School in Illinois.
He enjoys seeing the skillsets of the students advance as they progress from initial training days to successfully building a robot through the course of a school year.
“I know first-hand how much this organization has helped me in my engineering education and in my early engineering career,” he says. “I choose to volunteer my time every year because I want to help ensure that the current students gain the same valuable experience that I did.”
