SurgeX technology was born after scientists in New Jersey faced unreliable electrical fields from wall outlets while conducting gel electrophoresis, a process essential for accurate DNA and RNA analysis. The team brought in an engineer with a background in ground tracking and missile defense who then identified the limitations of their existing surge suppressors that used metal oxide varistors (MOVs).
This engineer developed a new solution – the Series Mode® protection circuit. This innovative technology filtered out high-frequency noise and safely discharged low-frequency surge energy without degrading over time or contaminating the ground. This solution not only solved the scientists’ problems but set the stage for SurgeX’s breakthrough into the AV industry.
In 1995, SurgeX launched the SA-15, marking a new era in power protection by delivering pure, consistent power and eliminating electrical disturbances. SurgeX continued to push boundaries, and in 2005, introduced Advanced Series Mode® technology. This new advancement offered unparalleled surge protection by eliminating all surge energy and providing even greater reliability for sensitive equipment.

Meet Jeff – Senior Sales Engineer for SurgeX.
Jeff is a pre-sales technical resource for SurgeX’s sales team, as well as their network of distributors, dealers, and end users.
He can often be found at tradeshows and spends most of his time teaching the science of power and the ins and outs of SurgeX’s products. When he’s not on the road, Jeff is working with dealers or end users to provide solutions to each unique product integration.
“Every day is different,” he says. “Whether I'm at a trade show or in the office, the range of people I'm in contact with changes daily. The client situations presented are unique to each of the integrations, and I'm excited to creatively solve their problems.”
With over 40 years of audiovisual experience, Jeff is eager to help others protect their equipment with SurgeX solutions.
