LARGO, FL— Sterling Ultra Precision, a world leader in single-point diamond-turning systems for the ophthalmic industry, has introduced its latest Optoform® control software MCS 1.29 designed specifically for the production of specialty contact lenses.
The improved version of the software incorporates more complex algorithms for the production of highly accurate and sophisticated toric, multifocal, prism and slab-off contact lens designs. The software also improves form and surface finish for existing Optoform asymmetric lathe files and allows for the contouring of front and back asymmetric edges for better wearer comfort.
By combining the new MCS 1.29 software with Sterling’s FTS® 1000 fast tool servo, Sterling has expanded the realm of manufacturing possibilities for optical lens designers. With a peak acceleration of 200 m/sec2, the FTS® 1000 permits production of non-symmetric lenses, including asymmetric diffractive designs.
Sterling Ultra Precision is a unit of AMETEK Ultra Precision Technologies, a division of AMETEK, Inc, a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices, with annualized sales of $3.0 billion.
