BROKEN ARROW, OK – The Model 8340 HPHT Consistometer from Chandler Engineering®, a leader in oil well cementing, viscosity, reservoir analysis and high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) instruments, is designed for cutting-edge laboratories that need to test cement mixtures and additives for use in the hottest temperatures and highest pressures.
The highly versatile instrument can be used to test cement thickening behavior under almost any downhole well condition. Designed specifically with laboratory efficiency and ease of operation in mind, the Model 8340 HPHT minimizes the two greatest contributors to instrument downtime: cool-down time between tests and downtime for repair and maintenance.
The Model 8340 incorporates an exclusive cooling system that shortens the time between tests by as much as 75%, compared with conventional consistometers. The cool down of a 400oF test to a safe 100oF, for example, takes about 15 minutes as opposed to more than a hour with a conventional consistometer. Design improvements also minimize maintenance on the hydraulic system, which is easy to clean and uses standard filters. The unit’s avionics-inspired modular electronics assembly makes unscheduled service a snap further minimizing downtime.
The Model 8340 is simple to operate with all operational controls conveniently located on the front panel. In addition, the unit is designed so that closure, heating and pressurization can be achieved quickly. Its slurry cup uses a magnetic coupling system to connect the drive motor to cup maximizing reliability. An optional dynamic programmable pressure control system is available, broadening the instrument’s capabilities and allowing it to accurately control pressure change rates and pre-program test protocols for automatic operation.
The Model 8340 is not limited to standard testing of cement thickening time. It also can be used to prepare slurries for other tests, including measuring free water content, testing for fluid loss or rheological properties and consistency. For enhanced research and testing, the Model 7322 can be equipped with an external chiller for performing tests at sub-ambient temperatures.
Chandler Engineering focuses on serving the upstream Oil & Gas markets in exploration and production. Its products are used for oil well cementing, viscosity measurement, reservoir analysis and other HPHT applications such as pipeline transmission. Chandler Engineering is part of the AMETEK Oil & Gas Business Unit.
